THE winner of the final heat of the News-backed All About the Song was decided last night in controversial fashion.
Paul Jones was declared the winner at The Cellars in Eastney after the judges decided to discount the audience’s vote – one-third of the total – because of unusual voting patterns.
Judge Steve Pitt said it was only the second time in six years such a measure had been taken,
Paul, 34, from Hayling Island said: ‘I’ve been in the final twice before and last year I was second, but this is my first time as a soloist.’
Paul will line up in the final alongside previous heat winners, Eloise Keating, Dani Uziel, Billy Gregory, Sarah Corcoran and Jack New.
A wildcard entry from across the heats will also get a spot in the final, which takes place on Sunday at the Wedgewood Rooms. Doors open at 7.30pm and tickets cost £5.
The winner will receive a prize package designed to help further their career.
