Throughout the summer the bandstand at Southsea has been hosting two afternoons of free live music every weekend.

Now, as the season draws to a close, after 13 weeks, the fun moves from West Battery Gardens to Castle Field for a huge finale weekend.

Tomorrow, there will be an afternoon tea dance with 1940s music from The Three Belles and Pete Weston Big Swing Band from 1pm to 4pm. This is followed by an evening of classical music from The Bossard Quartet and The Victory Brass Band from 6pm to 9pm.

Then, on Sunday, there’s an evening of covers and tributes from 6pm to 9.30pm with ’80s rock-metal covers band Hairforce 5 and Stevie Wonder tribute The Band of Wonder.

It will all end with an explosive fireworks display at 9.30pm on Sunday.

‘Feel free to bring along your chairs, blankets, and picnics to enjoy this sensational show. There will be a bar on site selling real ale and Pimm’s. But barbecues are not allowed,’ says Danielle Milasinovic, events officer at Portsmouth City Council.
