Peter Katz returns to The Cellars At Eastney on Wednesday, after the venue’s promotions manager, Steve Pitt, picked him out as ‘One of the outstanding artists for 2011 at The Cellars. Not to be missed!’

The Canadian folk rock artist and previous winner of CBC Galaxie’s Rising Star Award has worked with Academy Award Winner Glen Hansard, Canadian Folk darlings The Good Lovelies and steel-town siren Melissa McClelland. And all these collaborations appear on one album – First of the Last to Know.

Despite all the guest stars, this album is about Peter as a solo acoustic guitarist and singer. It follows previous albums he had recorded with a full band in an attempt to capture his solo live performances.

Katz explains his decision to record the album the way he would perform on tour: ‘My life is touring, and I’m dedicated to that, but at a certain point your record needs to do some leg-work for you. If the only way you can win someone over is live, then you need to go back to the drawing board and make a better record.’

Tickets to next week’s show cost £6 in advance from (023) 9282 6249 or £7 on the door.
