Last weekend I attended the PunchFunk Reunion at The Old Barn and it showed Portsmouth has no slowing of pace of great events in the lead-up to Christmas.
Firstly, tonight at Drift Bar, Palmerston Road, Death Pop will be presenting a DJ set from the actor Andy Shim, who many will know as Milky in the film and TV series This Is England – which I’m massive fan of! Expect ’90s-themed fancy dress and a DJ set full of indie, pop and rock anthems. Doors open from 10pm until 3am with tickets costing £5 from next.fatsoma.com.
Also tonight Lush FM and the Murky D&B crew will be teaming up for their Box-Fresh Christmas event, showcasing some of the best up-and-coming drum and bass DJs and MCs in Portsmouth including the likes of Elsta, Vinyl Ricky and DJ Zork.
It’s at the Mini Box, Commercial Road, doors open from 10pm until 3.30am and tickets £3 on the door (students £2). Check out Box Fresh on facebook.com
Tomorrow, promoters Our House will be putting on a night of nostalgic old school house with their Christmas party at The Cue Ball Club, Southsea.
It promises to be full of bumping warehouse party classics with hosts Ritzy and Central Park plus many others. Doors open 6pm until 1am with tickets on the door £1 before 9pm and only £3 after 9pm.
Last but not least we have the winner of the DJ Competition Showdown hosting his own night back at The Old Barn, Milton. That DJ goes by the name of Nooch and runs the rising drum and bass label Ransacked Records.
Expect a DJ set full of untouchable drum and bass mashups with doors open 8.30pm until 1am and pay what you want entry on the door.
