I believe a dynamic in Portsmouth is shifting in Portsmouth’s music scene; we are starting to see the rise of smaller promotion teams, the expansion of established local brands (especially within our electronic music scene).
The thirst for music is there and we just need more venues and opportunities for this emerging talent.
Kicking things of this week, we have a big one on the drum and bass scene as Surface DnB returns at The Old Barn, Milton with drum and bass heavy weights Scar alongside Rushmore. Scar is a collaborative project between Survival and Script who have released on the likes of Goldie’s Metalheadz and Dispatch Recordings. Joining them will be resident DJs Disruption, Luke Loud, Zork, Banksy, Ammy, Replay, Velos and Tandy alongside MC Rivmik.
Expect plenty of stellar drum and bass from 8pm until 1.30am, advance tickets cost £7 from oldbarnmilton.co.uk
The perfect warm up is the one-hour special of Zork b2b Banksy on Banksy and Dunn’s drum and bass show on QBase FM, tune in from 7.30pm on 94.7FM or qbasefm.co.uk
Returning this Saturday at RedNexx 44, Guildhall Walk, is Underground South with plenty of rolling drum and bass vibes from resident DJs Nathan Hunt, DJ Kenzie, Milli Cooper, Jarod Atkinson and Soul Intention. As before entry is free before 11pm and only £2 after. More at facebook.com
On the record label side of things this week, house and techno outfit Aila Records will release a brand new EP from Vipulicious with tracks Today The Dawn and T2 (alongside Ken Desmend’s remix of T2) heading out to all major stores and streaming platforms.
The EP blends the laidback deep house vibe of The Dawn, aggressive basslines in T2 and the dark techno atmosphere of Ken Desmend’s remix of T2. No doubt you will be hearing this AILA release among many others at local house and techno nights.
