Icebreaker Festival is set to return in 2016, and is looking to be bigger and better than ever.
After a successful first year, the multi-venue event, which celebrates the best in the south coast’s unsigned talent, has today announced its headliners for next year’s festival, which takes place on January 30.
And it is expanding from the six venues of this year to 10, all in the Albert Road and Elm Grove area of Southsea.
‘We are immensely proud of the acts headlining our festival,’ explains organiser Mike Hartley.
‘We have a wide range of diversity next year – we’ve definitely broadened our musical base – from heavy metal to drum and bass, to solo acoustic artists, so there’ll be plenty to choose from.
‘It was difficult to pick them because there were so many acts to choose from, but these acts deserve to headline. They all work hard throughout the year, so it’s nice to be able to reward them with something like this.’

The headliners are:
n Six ft Ditch
n Offbeat Offensive
n Veludo Planes
n Marley Blandford
n Gravel Rash
n Damn Beats
n Reform Music
The organising team will now be sifting through nearly 600 applications to fill the remaining 88 slots on offer throughout the day.
‘We had 577 applications,’ says Mike, ‘so it’s going to be a big task for us – we’ve got a team of eight – listening to all of them, and we’ll be checking some of them out live as well. We hope we’re going to have a tough time picking them.’
It will take place at The Wedgewood Rooms, Edge of the Wedge, Al’burrito, the Loft, Little Johnny Russell’s, the Fat Fox, The Atrium, One Eyed Dog, the Deco and the Honest Politician.
