Award-winning folk duo Spiers and Boden have announced their spring tour will be their last together for the forseeable future.

So fans should be thinking about seeing them when they come to the Wedgewood Rooms, Southsea, on May 17.

John Spiers and Jon Boden have played together for more than a decade, were a key part of Eliza Carthy’s award-winning Ratcatchers band and notably are the founding fathers of Bellowhead.

The duo have said that the demands of Bellowhead are making it hard to commit to other projects.

‘Bellowhead has surpassed our wildest expectations,’ says John Spiers. ‘And at this time we feel it’s better to focus our energies with them. I’m very proud of what we’ve done as a duo and equally excited about what the future may bring.’

Spiers and Boden first played together in 1999 and their first album, Through & Through, was released on the Fellside label in 2001.

In 2002 they played on Eliza Carthy’s Mercury nominated Anglicana album and toured with her.

The next year they won the Horizon Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards, followed up by winning Best Duo in 2004 and 2006.
