David Hill, now established as a major symphonic as well as choral conductor, will crown a striking programme of English music at Portsmouth Guildhall tomorrow with one of Elgar’s mightiest orchestral works.

Hill will top-and-tail the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra’s programme a week today, (7.30pm) with the composer’s Wand of Youth Suite No 2 and epic Symphony No 1.

It will also feature the purity of The Lark Ascending by Vaughan Williams, with BSO leader Amyn Merchant as soloist.

Tickets cost £15 to £25 from 0844 847 2362.
