Rising star Huw Olesker has signed to Turf Records.
The 15-year-old Portsmouth singer-songwriter-comedian, who came runner-up in the Best Solo Artist category at The Guide Awards last November, is the first signing to this new label which focuses on developing young talent and releasing physical copies beyond the CD and vinyl formats.
The label’s first release was a free download of Huw’s track Rhinos on Monday. This will be followed in March by Hearse/Marmite, available as a limited edition download and comic book (designed by Huw’s mate Osker Jeff).
Alex Lee Thomson at Turf says: ‘Huw’s a witty, foul-mouthed youth, commandeered by the mind of an ageing activist. He’s more self-aware, more self-deprecating, and more egotistical than most poets in their 50s.’
See Huw on Wednesday when he plays at the Wedgewood Rooms on Albert Road with his band Zoo In The Sky. They’ll be supporting Clay Pigeon with Code 11, Jordan Pakiry and The Last Laugh.
Tickets: £3 on the door from 7.30pm or from (023) 9286 3911.
