Last weekend was a hectic one at The Astoria on Guildhall Walk with their festival-inspired resident Saturday night event Oh La La, which I had the pleasure of experiencing!
Exciting production, live performers and plenty of colour makes their events really stand out – watch this space if you’re looking for celebrations over Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
On the bass music front this weekend in Portsmouth, fresh promoters Lo-Wave return to present their Bass Sessions at Blue Lagoon at Hilsea Lido. After their successful launch at The Barn in Milton, Lo-Wave have decided to move to the new space which is starting to make an impression on the local scene. Lo-Wave are set to switch things up and present a night dedicated to multiple bass genres including garage, grime, dubstep and drum and bass which you don’t see very often. The line-up will include Milli Cooper b2b Grunt, Cloaker, Gbangaz and Oh Charlie b2b Nixtape. The event will be free from 8pm until 1am with more details at facebook.com.
Meanwhile tonight over at Lord John Russell on Albert Road, the venue will celebrate it’s one-year anniversary of their resident Friday nights – Thank The Lord It’s Friday! Slick Minded Individuals headline as the guest live performers; these guys are an exciting five-piece live hip-hop act. Supporting the band will be DJs Will Chump (Delight) and Texas Bill with plenty of rock, rave and hip-hop bangers! Doors open from 8.30pm until 1am and entry is completely free. Excellent! On Tuesday at The Astoria, their student night Dirty Disco is having its Naughty or Nice Christmas Party. Expect plenty of raving and misbehaving with £1.50 drink deals from 10.30pm until 3am. More details over at facebook.com.
