REVIEW: Thee Hypnotics at The Wedgewood Rooms, Southsea

Have your say

I had been looking forward to seeing Kate Rusby for a long while because it was my very first concert.

Kate sings like an angel and my favourite song was I Courted A Sailor, a reworking, (originally on 2001’s Little Lights) from her latest album 20, which celebrates her 20th year as a singer.

Kate encouraged us to sing along and the packed crowd did so very well.

Between songs she even told us funny stories and what the songs were about.

The Old Man was another highlight, telling the story of an old couple who argue about who does the most work on the farm, the man claiming he ‘does more work in one day than his wife does in three’.

The five-piece band were very good too. Kate’s husband, Damien O’Kane, played delicate guitar and banjo, as well as being the subject of some gentle teasing!
