As of yesterday, the contract is signed, sealed and delivered and Stevie Wonder will headline the closing day of Bestival.
The superstar will appear on Sunday, September 9, at the Festival in Robin Hill Country Park near Newport on the Isle of Wight.
The festival’s curator, Rob da Bank, says: ‘I see part of my job at Bestival as giving you acts you may never have seen or will get the chance to see again, so I’m hoping you feel as happy as I do as we announce the legendary Stevie Wonder as Sunday night headliner.
‘This man’s music has always been part of the da Bank home listening experience and this is a very rare chance to see a legend in action.’
Festival PR man, Simon Blackmore adds: ‘Stevie Wonder is the musical definition of sunshine.’
Winner of 25 Grammy Awards (the most ever for a solo artist), Stevie gave an uplifting party performance when he headlined to field-bursting crowds at Glastonbury in 2010.
We can expect more of the same when he comes to the island in September, with hits like Superstition, Masterblaster and Happy Birthday.
Other acts already confirmed for 20 stages of live music at the festival include New Order (who will headline on Saturday), The XX, Sigur Rós, Emeli Sandé, Rizzle Kicks, Friendly Fires, Two Door Cinema Club, Hot Chip, Nero, Orbital, Warpaint, De La Soul, The Horrors, Ben Howard, Michael Kiwanuka plus a huge array of DJs. Organisers have also announced that the festival’s theme this year is ‘wildlife’.
But Bestival’s Friday night headliner is still to be revealed.
Last year, the festival was runner-up for the title of Best Event at The Guide Awards and it won the inaugural category of Fan’s Favourite at the UK Festival Awards.
