One of the supreme musical masterpieces for the pre-Easter season will be performed by Portsmouth Choral Union with the Southern Pro Musica orchestra at St Mary’s Church, Fratton Road, tomorrow (March 23, 7.30pm).

Bach’s St John Passion, based on St John’s Gospel, is regarded by some as the composer’s most dramatic realisation of the events leading to the Crucifixion – ahead of his better-known St Matthew Passion.

The performance will be conducted by David Gostick, who became PCU’s musical director at the beginning of the year.

Tickets cost £12 from Rosemary Saulet on (023) 9282 2227 or email
