A feast of Easter folk, skiffle, blues and shanties takes place in Gosport on Sunday and Monday.

It will feature Portsmouth’s Reet Petite & Gone, George Wilson, Shep Woolley, The Portsmouth Shanty Men, Walker Broad, Dicey Riley, Pete Quin, The Pompey Pluckers and Victory Morris.

There’s also a host of visiting acts including shanty singer Tom Lewis from Canada. Tom used to live in Gosport during his time as a submariner at HMS Dolphin.

There will be songs of Hampshire from Sarah Morgan and Jeff Gillet, as well as tunes and tales of Derbyshire delivered by Keith Kendrick and Sylvia Needham.

And, on Monday evening, there is a special sea song and shanty session in remembrance of Clive ‘Sooty’ Broughton, a founder member of the Portsmouth Shanty Men and the organiser of the legendry Portsmouth Railway Folk Club, which boasted acts including Paul Simon, Jasper Carrot, Mike Harding, Elvis Costello and Jon Isherwood and Patrick Nelson.

It all takes place at the Masonic Hall in Clarence Road, with two sessions each day, plus food and real ale on hand.

Tickets on the door cost £7 per session.

Or, you can pay £20 for all four from (023) 9271 3627.
