Postman Dave aims to liven up Fareham's night life with new music nights

Dave Aston from Fareham has been a postman for 15 years but two months ago decided he wanted to use his passion for good music and launch Nod Ya Head productions in a bid to make more people aware of the talent on their doorstep.

Dave said: '˜I've always been a massive live music fan but it's always hard work getting home so I thought why isn't it in Fareham?

'˜Â Why do I have to go to Southampton, Portsmouth, Oxford or BrightonÂ to see good, new, original music so I'Â m trying to bring it into Fareham.'

Dave intends to showcase local bands in pop up venues around the south and help boost trade for venues that host them.

The 42-year-old said: '˜People are getting fed up in this town, it's dying on its feet but some people still believe in it. The night life is poor so I want to kick it up the backside, new bands, local bands, good bands, original music, I want this to be a night that people mark on their calendar and look forward to.

'˜Â The tagline is '˜Same old town, brand new music'Â Â so if your ears are bored, come down and wake them up.'

Nod Ya Head's first gig will be at Mill Road Working Mens Club on September 21 withÂ Dutch Criminal Record, Drusila, Lo-fi Rebels and Marley Blandford on the line-up.

Dave said: '˜I tried a couple of places but they didn'Â t really seem interested or get the concept I was trying to sell, a regular event for proper music fans like me who want to see more than a covers band in the pub.

'˜I wanted somewhere with a decent capacity and more of a proper venue so decided I'd have to pay to hire Mill Road clubÂ andÂ I'Â ve picked artists that are local but also that I truly believe are worthy of being successful.'

He added: '˜It's a bit too early to hang up my postie bag just yet but my friends and family are extremely supportive and they all know that music is my main passion.
