RECORD crowds attended this year’s Wickham Festival making it the best yet.
More than 25,000 people went to the four-day event last weekend.
Organiser Peter Chegwyn said: ‘It’s easily been our best year. We smashed all box office records, the traders did great business, we have record renewals for next year and we even drank the bar dry as we ran out of beer late on Sunday night.
‘And yet there was not a hint of trouble or rowdy behaviour.
‘This was the most successful festival I’ve run in 25 years. It has truly been a bumper year.’
Mr Chegwyn praised the fans, who flocked to see headline acts Wilko Johnson, Billy Bragg, The Proclaimers and 10cc. He said he is busy booking acts for next year and he was pleased to see so many people booking their tickets already.
He said: ‘People must have enjoyed it because so many have already booked before they know the line-up. They know the atmosphere will be just as good and they trust us to have a good bill.’
