Acclaimed African performer Dobet Gnahoré is coming to our region as part of a rare UK tour.

Originally from the Ivory Coast, but now splitting her time between France and Belgium, she is renowned for melding theatre, dance, music and African percussion in her shows. The Grammy winner and BBC Radio 3 World Music Award nominee returns with fourth album Na Drê and a specially-commissioned show featuring her band and dancers from Senegal and Ghana.

She says: ‘I always feel I am primarily a singer and a dancer and then a theatre performer. The difference in Europe is you are dancer OR a musician. People tell me in Europe you are so strong, you do everything on your own. But in Africa you can do every discipline.’

Dobet is appearing as part of Wemsfest at the Westbourne Club in Westbourne, on Saturday, October 11, doors at 8pm. Tickets cost £12.50 from
