A former principal cellist in the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain will be soloist in a concert at the Royal Marines Museum on Southsea seafront on Sunday (7.30pm).

Leo Popplewell is to play Haydn’s Cello Concerto No 2 with a chamber orchestra drawn from the ranks of the Solent Symphony Orchestra.

Regular SSO conductor Steve Tanner takes charge of the programme which also includes American composer Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring in the original version for only 13 players, Malcolm Arnold’s Trevelyan Suite for wind ensemble, and Beethoven’s first symphony.
