THE latest heat winner is flying high after making it through to the final of All About the Song.

Sarah Corcoran, who performs as Bluebird, took the honours at last night’s second heat of the News-backed singer-songwriter contest. She will be playing alongside five other heat winners in the final at The Wedgewood Rooms on June 22.

Sarah, 28, from Chichester Road in North End, Portsmouth said: ‘I’ve always loved music and singing, and I’d always fancied turning my hand to songwriting, but I only picked up the guitar about a year ago.

‘I saw this advertised in The News and thought, why not?

‘I’m excited to play the Wedgewood Rooms, I won’t lie. I sang there 10 years ago, when I was a student at South Downs College for a charity show, but this is different.’

Both Sarah and runner-up Jamin Gallier will also get a slot at the Southsea Show in August. Jamin, 24, from Locks Heath added: ‘I just wanted to show myself and my music off, get a little bit of experience. I’m definitely up for the Southsea Show.’

The next heat is on Monday, at The Cellars. Doors at 7.30pm, entry is £2.
