When JLS were just a twinkle in their fathers’ eyes, one boyband reigned supreme. Returning to Fareham for the second year in a row, The Stylistics took to the stage at Ferneham Hall and proved they’ve still got that boy band magic 44 years on.
With two of the original band members – Herbie Murrell and Airrion Love, who are both now 62-years-old – the foursome wooed the sell-out crowd with their blend of soulful music and synchronised dance moves.
Halfway through the set, they individually addressed the audience, Airrion joking that his Afro now has a few holes in it and new member Eban Brown asking if there was ‘anybody in the building looking for love?’.
There were great renditions of Betcha By Golly Wow, You Are Everything and I’m Stone In Love With You.
The magical moment of the evening came when Airrion opened You Make Me Feel Brand New. I’m not sure if it was the twinkle from the disco ball or his smooth and passionate delivery, but something certainly made me come over all lovey-dovey.
A great evening from the Philadelphia group, proving that some bands can stand the test of time.
