Bringing the country into the city for folk duo India Electric Company's new project

Have your say

Twenty-three years in, this Northern Irish trio, with Andy Cairns’ choppy guitar riffs, perma-pogoing Michael McKeegan’s elastic bass and Neil Cooper’s staccato drumming, batter out a succession of noisy punk-metal belters.

From the juddering Teethgrinder, to the haunted Turn and the brand new Living in the Shadow of the Terrible Thing, they draw on every stage of their career. However, they occasionally forget to put a tune in and things fall a little flat.

But during the half hour encore they’re flawless. From 1990’s debut single, Meat Abstract, to a trio of Troublegum-era classics, Nowhere, Knives and Screamager, they finishing with another early number, Potato Junkie and its sweary crowd-sung refrain.

Rarely has nihilism been so much fun.
