Think of Tony Christie and Is This The Way To Amarillo? is usually the only song that springs to mind.

Playing the first night of his 50-date comeback tour at Southampton’s The Brook, Tony proved that he is more than just a one-trick pony.

The gig kicked-off with popular Avenues & Alleyways, swiftly followed by Las Vegas. Tony looked remarkably handsome, fit and agile for a 67-year-old, with his tanned skin and swept back silver hair. His big voice and nine-piece band more than filled the rather intimate venue.

There were strong vocals from Tony throughout and excellent saxophone playing especially in jazzy Working Overtime.

Songs from his new album, Now’s the Time, were received well by the audience, getting a few people dancing. He didn’t disappoint and gave the audience something to sing-along to, closing the show with Is This The Way To Amarillo?
