CHART-topping drummer Andy Burrows showed youngsters how it’s done with a series of drum clinics.

Andy, who co-wrote the number one hit America as part of Razorlight and now has his own band I Am Arrows, led the workshops at Brookfield Community School in Sarisbury Green.

The 31-year-old grew up in Winchester and played in the county’s youth band. He said: ‘The Hampshire Rocks! day is a fantastic opportunity for these children to improve on what they already know, and to see what other types of music and styles there are.

‘Music is really important for our children – it teaches them to focus, improves their social skills, and helps develop their confidence. The Hampshire county youth band was great because I was amongst other people who felt as passionately about music as I did.’

Councillor Roy Perry, who is in charge of children’s services for the county, said: ‘This Hampshire Rocks! drumming workshop and live performance provided the young people with the opportunity to play with, and learn from a top drummer.’
