Indie survivors The Inspiral Carpets are finishing off a strong year on the comeback trail with a gig at The Wedgewood Rooms in Southsea on Thursday.

The Madchester legends, who are now back with original singer Stephen Holt, released their first album in20 years in September after a busy summer of festivals – including The Isle of Wight Festival.

The self-titled album boasts the riproaring recent single Spitfire as well as Let You Down, which was written with the punk-poet John Cooper-Clarke.

And the band are looking forward to dropping new songs in alongside classics like Saturn V and This is How It Feels.

Drummer Craig Gill says: ‘We have been busy gigging all summer at the likes of T In The Park and the Isle of Wight, bedding a couple of those new tracks into our classic live set. The band are really gelling, we’re enjoying the moment.’

Guitarist Graham Lambert adds: ‘We equally love doing the festivals and live club shows.

‘We don’t tour all the time and this year has seen a brilliant run of shows so far, so this tour will round the year off nicely – don’t miss us.’

Doors open 8pm, tickets cost £20. Go to
