The singer has always been a keen sailor and in 1985 he took part in the Whitbread Round the World Yacht Race.

Mr Le Bon said: '˜It was an easy choice for me to support a charity that helps some of the UK's most disadvantaged youngsters experience the joy and camaraderie of what it is like to sail at sea  whilst also helping them with key life skills,'

The charity supports around 3, 000 participants, including many from Portsmouth and Hampshire, to set sail each year and in total has helped 117,000 trainees to sail two million nautical miles.

Around 90 per cent of the young people who have participated in a residential voyage believe it has helped them to develop their confidence and skills  including cooking and cleaning.

'˜I hope my work with the Tall Ships Trust creates the opportunity for individuals to undertake even more adventures and open up the chance to learn life skills which will set them on a good path in life,' explained Mr Le Bon.
