Portsmouth's Victorious Festival in line for two huge awards at major contest

The Portsmouth-based spectacle is up for Best Family and Best Metropolitan Festival at the UK Festival Awards.

The event is seen as the Oscars of the UK's festival industry.

Victorious announced the news on its Facebook account, with bosses thanking its band of loyal festival-goers for voting for it.

In a statement, Victorious said: '˜Thanks so much to everyone who took the time to vote for us. It means so much to everyone that works on the festival throughout the year.'

This year's show, again staged on Southsea Common, attracted about 30,000 revellers over the August bank holiday weekend.

The festival had initially been in the running for five titles, including the prestigious '˜Best Major Festival', '˜Marketing Campaign of the Year' and '˜Promoter of the Year'.

Winners of the awards will be announced at an event next month.
