Ei Publican Partnerships is running its campaign throughout February and March.

The event follows a report which revealed the importance of the pub to the nation – beaten only the post office and local shop.

Many stand as a key pillar in local community life, and now pubs throughout the UK are giving back by running a Buy One Get One Free offer alongside the campaign.

The Glencoe pub on San Diego Road, Gosport, and the Milton Arms on Milton Road, Portsmouth, are both getting in on the action.

The research, conducted by the pub group, revealed that seven per cent of Brits would rather spend time at their local than with their partner.

Despite that, it would appear romance isn’t dead.

Almost a fifth of people believe pubs are the perfect place for a first date.

Over 26 million people have stated that the pub is a great place to unwind after a hard day.

Out of the nation’s top landlords, participants revealed that Al Murray is the fictional pub landlord they would most like to pour us a pint.

This is followed closely by Danny Dyer’s character in EastEnders and Albert Square legend Peggy Mitchell.

Socialising and charitable giving are becoming synonymous with our local watering holes.

A fifth of those asked championed the pub as a great place to raise money for local causes, with the local landlord or lady being expected to lead the community in organising charitable events.

As well as the 2-4-1 offer, the Ei Publican Partnerships is giving punters the chance to win free beer for a year, and can vote for their favourite publican to win free beer for their local pub.

Brigid Simmonds, chief executive of the British Beer and Pub Association, said: ‘Pubs are a great place for the community to socialise, but more than this they are a hub where people get together to do good.

‘Whether that’s meeting up with friends or raising money for the local community, pubs and people are a match made in heaven.
