REVIEW: Luke Winslow King at The Square Tower, Portsmouth
As the sun set on a glorious summer in Old Portsmouth, it was somehow fitting that the strains of the Mississppi Blues wafted over the Hotwalls.Â
Especially as New Orleans based singer/songwriter Luke Winslow King took to the stage at his sold out show at The Square Tower.
It was the last night of a long tour to promote the new album 'Blue Mesa' and the band were in a rocking mood.
Luke is a consumate front man who soon gets the crowd onside, virtually all of whom were witnessing the band for the first time.
Star of the opening set however was guitarist Roberto Luti, who provided the perfect foil for the lead singer with some superlative slide guitar work.
Although it was the second set but the band went up a gear with a more rockabilly tinged songs with the fervor of Johnny Cash.
Luke now stepped up to the plate with a fantastic guitar duel with Roberto which provided the evening's highlight '“Â tremendous stuff indeed.
The evening finished with a standing ovation with Luke making an exit through the crowd shaking virtually everybody's hand.
