Science on show at seasideaquarium

ACTIVITIES and educational talks will take place at Blue Reef Aquarium in Southsea as part of next week's National Science Week.

One activity will be a trail around the centre where visitors can compare their abilities to creatures including otters, sharks and seahorses.

Organiser Jenna MacFarlane said: ‘National Science Week is an annual event to celebrate science, highlight its importance to our everyday lives and, hopefully, get more people interested in the sciences in general.

‘As part of the event we are undertaking a series of fun and entertaining observational experiments and activities around the aquarium.

‘We will be asking children to test themselves against a selection of animal superstars and see how they compare.

‘For example our otters can hold their breath for up to five minutes underwater and our sharks’ skeletons are made of cartilage which makes them extremely flexible.’

The activities will run from March 11 to March 20.
