Two plays by the Royal Shakespeare Company will be streamed live from Stratford-upon-Avon to The Berry Theatre this Spring, starting with Love’s Labour’s Lost on Wednesday, February 24 at 7pm.
This modern adaptation is set in England in the summer of 1914. In order to dedicate themselves to a life of study, the King and his friends take an oath to avoid the company of women for three years. No sooner have they made their pledge than the Princess of France and her ladies-in-waiting arrive, presenting them with a test of resolve. Throughout the comedy this unrealistic vow begins to unravel in a study of the mysteries of the opposite sex.
The action is given a twist by the historical backdrop – as romance blossoms the lovers agree to spend time apart, unaware of onset of World War One.
