Panto fans are in for a treat this season at the Nuffield Theatre.

The Southampton playhouse hosts classic Christmas treat, the Nutcracker, until January 12.

Based on the original story by ETA Hoffmann, this family friendly play tells the tale of Clara who is given an unusual present one Christmas

On Christmas Eve, Clara’s mysterious Uncle, Drosselmeier, presents her with an enchanted nutcracker.

Clara is quickly drawn into a magical world where toys come to life, gingerbread soldiers battle armies of mice, and Clara begins an epic search for her elusive Prince.

Director Blanche McIntyre (The Seagull, The Birthday Party) thinks the show will surprise and delight audiences equally.

‘It’s full of surprises and drama, ‘ says Blanche.

‘There are two or three tricks I guarantee you won’t see coming and it is one of the most beautiful and moving stories happeningg underneath all the pizazz.’ says Blanche.

The Nutcracker is now showing with performances at 7.30 pm tonight and at 2.30pm and 7.30pm tomorrow. Tickets start at £9. For more information call (023) 8067 1771.
