Portsmouth Choral Union will join forces with Salisbury Musical Society to give two performances of Beethoven’s mighty Missa Solemnis this month.

The first will be in Salisbury Cathedral tomorrow, conducted by David Halls, the second at St Mary’s Church in Fratton Road, Portsmouth, on Saturday, April 16, conducted by PCU music director Jonathan Willcocks.

Soprano Claire Seaton will lead a powerful quartet of soloists completed by Emily Bauer-Jones (contralto), Andrew Mackenzie-Wicks (tenor) and Duncan Rock (bass).

The orchestra in Portsmouth will be the Southern Pro Musica, which brings together the finest instrumentalists in the south with freelance professional musicians in principal positions.

Both performances begin at 7.30pm.
