Havant’s award-winning theatre company SOOP has been awarded a grant from Hampshire County Council to develop and tour a new theatre show for young people – and the group is looking for actors to help them perform it.

Entitled A Viking Tale – The Story of Sigurd the Dragonslayer, the show will be devised by an ensemble of professional actors, directed by SOOP’s creative cirector Nathan Chapman, and the script will be developed by Lucy Flannery, an award-winning local writer.

Nathan says: ‘In the past we have engaged university graduates and other talented performers who have yet to take their first steps in professional theatre, and we created touring shows that have received critical acclaim and bookings all over the country.

‘The acting business is so hard to break into, I like to think we give people a little help along the way.’

A Viking Tale is based on the Volsunga saga of Icelandic folklore, and is aimed at audiences aged nine years old and above. The story features an epic quest, a battle with a dragon, an evil witch and a tragic love story.

An audition workshop will be held on Sunday, April 7 at Havant. Interested performers should email For more information go to
