The award-winning opera producer Ellen Kent returns to the Kings Theatre, Southsea on October 1 with an epic production of Bizet’s Carmen.
One of the most famous and seductive operas, Carmen tells the story of the downfall of Don José, a naïve soldier seduced by the wiles of the titular fiery gypsy girl and features one of the best known baritone arias, The Toreador’s Song.
Having made highly-acclaimed operas for the past 24 years, Kent’s productions are renowned for their set design, which in this case is a replica of Seville’s main square, with fountains, flowers and orange trees. It also includes a white stallion onstage.
Ellen says : ‘Audiences will thoroughly enjoy seeing Caspian. He is such a beautiful horse, very disciplined. He is a trained film horse so he can dance, it’s a magnificent sight.’
