Chris Ramsey at The Kings Theatre, Southsea review: '˜The evening was perfectly pitched with added pathos'

Fresh off the back of regular appearances on well-known comedy panel shows such as Celebrity Juice, Chris Ramsey brings his aptly named Just Happy to Get Out of the House Tour to Portsmouth showcasing the very best in observational domestic comedy.

Ably supported by Carl '˜with a C' Hutchinson, home life and houses are an overall theme of the evening.

Hutchinson displays great confidence and already feels like a well-established comedian dealing with crowd comments expertly. A genuinely funny talent, his shtick about a bin bag is an image that will stay with you for a while afterwards!

Chris Ramsey's cheeky-chappy style also goes down well in the packed out theatre. Ramsey is adept at bringing to life the everyday and finding the funny in the small details of life. Obviously used to the odd heckler, Ramsey shuts down any wannabe comedians by instantly making them part of the show.

At times, he dwells on things he clearly holds a grudge against, but this just makes him all the more likeable. He laughs along with things he also finds funny and treats his audience to a surprisingly heartfelt, well-observed, genuine routine that has something for everyone to enjoy.

Particular highlights include reflections on '˜life lessons' he would pass on to his son, his slow cooker beef (pun intended) and a touching finale that will resonate with '˜DIY dads' everywhere.

The evening was perfectly pitched with added pathos '“ be sure to catch him when he's next in town.
