February heralds the start of the Year of the Monkey.

And to celebrate, a host of Chinese performers will be swinging by the Kings Theatre as part of an international tour – including the winner of China’s version of The Voice.

On Wednesday, February 17 at 7.30pm, the magic of the Orient will be taking over the stage at the Kings Theatre in Southsea as it hosts Cultures of China: Festival of Spring.

Lei Zhang won the singing competition in 2015, and will perform alongside his fellow finalist Dage Zhao, ventriloquists, acrobats and nationally-renowned soprano Jing Tie.

Cultures of China: Festival of Spring is coming to the Kings following performances in Trafalgar Square and the London Palladium, with further dates in Belfast, Luxembourg and Milan.

Albert Choi, Chair of Portsmouth Chinese Association, helped bring the event to Portsmouth.

He says: ‘We are really excited about the show and can’t wait to greet the delegation of Chinese performers who have all travelled such a long way to be with us.

‘We are truly honoured to have them in Portsmouth as they normally only perform in London.

‘While they are in Portsmouth they have requested to see the Spinnaker tower and the Historic Dockyard.’

David Cooper, CEO of the Kings, says he is looking forward to seeing the performance.

‘I’m really going to enjoy the acrobatics and the ribbon work because China has such a good reputation in these disciplines.

‘Another highlight will be a mask-changing act. I have no idea how they do it.’

He adds: ‘I want to see the theatre packed. It’s such a great opportunity for the residents of Portsmouth to see top-quality Chinese entertainment as it should be performed.’

Other performances include dances by the Chengdu Art Theatre and the Beauties of the Beijing Opera and a Chinese puppetry show.

Tickets cost £15.
