Friday marked the 202nd celebration of Charles Dickens’s birth.

The famous author, born in Old Commercial Road, Portsmouth was celebrated in style as the nation’s first ever Dicken’s Statue was unveiled in the Guildhall Square.

Many people attended the unveiling also visited the Birthplace Museum as well but for Dickens fans there’s a further treat in store at Hilsea Lido.

In the refurbished Blue Lagoon, Alchemy Theatre company will be presenting an entertaining talk about Dickens.

At Sea With Dickens, arranged by Eileen Norris and assisted by Tim Suffolk, will focus upon Charles Dickens and the influence of the sea in his life and works.

Illustrated with numerous pictures and readings, this event will bring Dickens to life for new and established fans alike.
