A NATIONWIDE celebration of all things fashion came to Portsmouth over the weekend.

New Theatre Royal in Guildhall Walk, Portsmouth, played host to the Your Fun Palace event, celebrating the variety and creativity in the local community.

The event saw community fashion shows, theatre costume demonstrations and photo shoots, among a number of other activities.

Hundreds of people went along to the event, finding our more about the world of fashion and theatre.

Scott Ramsay, chief executive at New Theatre Royal, said: ‘We know that some people can be put off by the world of high fashion and think it’s not for them.

‘Our event aimed to get everyone involved, and help people of all ages to make the most of their clothes and have some fun with fashion.’

New Theatre Royal’s Fun Palace also provided an opportunity to get involved in the theatre’s upcoming Christmas show, Peter Pan, as attendees of all ages were invited to design and make a personalised patch to stitch into a special cloak that will be featured in the theatre’s production this December.

The event also placed a heavy focus on the idea of upcycling old clothes, with upcycling demonstrations and advice on how to upcycle clothes for work and interviews.

Mr Ramsay added: ‘Upcycling clothes is great for all of us looking to do that little bit more to help the environment.’
