Icarus Theatre Collective, who have previously staged Shakespeare’s R&J and Othello at the New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth, will return with Hamlet next week.

But the intended three performances have now been reduced to one, on Wednesday at 7.30pm.

The company has cut the play, about a man whose resolve to avenge his father’s murder is overtaken by irresolution, to about two-and-a-half hours, performing it with a combination of traditional and physical techniques and new music.

The production, directed by Icarus founder Max Lewendel, can also be seen at Winchester Theatre Royal from March 28-30.

Next Thursday and Friday, the Winchester theatre stages Private Peaceful by Michael Morpurgo.
