THIS WEEK IN 1975: Props consortium could save groups

Have your say

Footloose is a dear favourite of mine. However a note of caution – the sudden introduction had us all jumping in fright!

Based on a true story set in the fictional town of Bomont, where any form of dancing is considered illegal, the plot centres on teenager Ren McCormick (Max Milner) who arrives in town and is promptly regarded as a social disturbance for his city ways

He upsets the likes of authority figure Reverend Moore (Steven Pinder) but entices his troublemaker of a daughter Ariel (Lorna Want).

Matt Willis (ex Busted boy band member) as hard man Chuck, performed a great version of The Girl Gets Around.

Yet most noticeably the best performances came from Lorna Want for her strong voice and in particular Giovanni Spano who plays the dear Willard, Ren’s sidekick who doesn’t know how to dance or speak up to get his girl, Rusty.

His sheer charisma and enthusiasm shone through his role and his performance of Mama Says and Spano got the biggest cheer at the end. Favourites include Let’s Hear it for the Boy, Almost Paradise and the jive addictive Footloose namesake itself.

A worthy show that will have you out of your seat by the end.
