The Emperor of Japan wants an execution and Koko, the Lord High Executioner, has previously escaped the punishment, so needs to find a volunteer other than himself and quick.
Nanki Poo, unbeknown to all in Titipu, is the runaway son of the Emperor who finds himself volunteering so that he may marry his beloved Yum Yum.
But legal complications arise, and KoKo is forced to pretend that the execution has taken place.
