Samantha Kelly took the Best Amateur Actress award for her performance as Evita in the South Downe Musical Society’s production.

Samantha was surprised to have won and still obviously in shock as she left the stage.

Samantha Kelly gives her thank-yous after winning Best Amateur Actress.

She said: ‘I’m shaking, I’m trembling.

‘Playing Evita was a pretty big role so I’m amazed I actually won.

‘I didn’t think I was going to win at all tonight – Evita is the first big role I’ve ever played.

‘In fact it’s only the second role I’ve ever played at all.’

She added: ‘It felt pretty amazing being up on the stage. It’s what I’ve always wanted so it was like the best thing that I have ever done.

‘Being up there getting this, especially having the award presented by Mike Allen who critiqued my first-ever performance, was just the icing on the cake, it’s just made everything so worth it.

‘I’ve had good support tonight, there are loads of people here from South Downe Musical Society.

‘Obviously without them I wouldn’t have won this award, they’ve been my backbone since I moved here, they’re brilliant.

‘I’m not in South Downe’s next production, South Pacific, but I am always in and around the society, supporting them all the time.

‘The next thing for me personally is to take a little break and work on my own stuff really, see where I want to go next.

‘ I don’t know if I’ll be back here in 2014, it depends on if I get lucky enough to get offered another role.’
