Brian Capron, who was named Best Actor at the British Soap Awards for his performances as serial killer Richard Hillman in Coronation Street, has murder in mind again as he takes to the stage at Winchester Theatre Royal next week.

He appears in the first ever Lieutenant Columbo case, Prescription: Murder.

The play is derived from a pilot episode of 1970s American cop series Columbo, which starred American actor Peter Falk as the ‘man in the mac’.

Psychiatrist Roy Flemming and his wife are celebrating their anniversary when he is called to deal with a female patient.

On returning, he has to soothe his angry wife with the promise of a vacation.

When she is then found dead, Columbo is brought in to investigate – and seeds of doubt are planted in his mind.

Richard Walsh, best-known as Albert ‘Sicknote’ Quigley in London’s Burning, and Alexandra Boyd (Clarissa Mason in Coronation Street) are also in the touring cast.
