On Thursday, Stansted House near Rowlands Castle will host an evening of theatre in the music room as the company Artifice performs Jane Austen’s Artifice.
Written by Kate Napier, artistic director of Artifice, this is a play about writing novels, and an unusual approach to adapting Austen’s works to the stage.
Jane herself leads the audience on a journey through her writing, drawing from her early works and correspondence, as well as the better-known novels, revealing how her most- loved characters and plot lines took root in her imagination.
Elinor and Marianne from Sense and Sensibility turn up, as do Catherine Norland and Henry Tilney from Northanger Abbey, as well as lesser known characters.
Performance starts at 7.30pm.
Tickets: £14, call (023) 9241 2265 to book.
