J.M Barrie would be proud of the Peter Pan production at the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton. Captivating from the start, the audience of all ages is treated to an enchanting evening of magic, mystery and wonder.
Daniel Boys, who plays the leading role of the boy who doesn’t want to grow up, introduces us to the art of flying while sharing his world of Neverland with the Darling children.
But what is a pantomime without a villain? The dashingly handsome Captain Hook, played by Ben Richards, relishes the audience banter and boos as he prepares to defeat Pan along with his crew. Les Dennis plays his loveable sidekick Smee.
The set design and clever wizardry of the crocodile and dog Nanna has children wide-eyed. My favourite scene sees the mermaids dazzle us with their glittery fins and song, ‘swimming’ and dancing around the theatrical stage.
Producer Michael Rose has excelled at modernising this production while making it more accessible.
It is clever, witty and magical for any age.
Until January 14.
