The Kings Youth Theatre had us all reminiscing with its adaptation of the old classic Oliver!
Based on the novel Oliver Twist, written by Portsea-born Charles Dickens and performed for several years in the West End and later Broadway, it was made into the musical film we all know and love in 1968.
This is the first time that director Joanna Bennington has combined her two classes, resulting in a large cast showcasing different abilities with ages ranging from seven to 17.
Not only were the children acting, but they have also had heavy involvement with the production, including choreography, lighting and costumes.
Set design was good although complicated in parts resulting in some time between scenes.
Efforts were made to progress scenes while backgrounds were being assembled and this was a little distracting.
The ensemble came together very nicely and Amber Toman, 14, as Nancy, was outstanding.
