They say he could redeem sinners, heal the sick and even walk on water.

And now the story of Jesus is about to be told in a musical at a venue which itself has been recently reborn, Portsmouth’s New Theatre Royal. A 15-strong cast will be joined by the Portsmouth University Gospel Choir for Risen!, which will take place on Friday, November 6 at 7.30pm and on Saturday, November 7 at 2.30pm and 7.30pm.

The Right Reverend Christopher Forster, Bishop of Portsmouth, says: ‘Risen! presents dramatically and powerfully the central story of the Christian faith.

‘Having heard the songs I can’t wait to see the show.’

The songs and melodies were written by Ken Shearsmith, a former school teacher at Crofton School in Stubbington, and member of the congregation at Holy Rood Church in Stubbington.

Tickets cost from £10 to £16.50 from newtheatreroyal.com or (023) 9264 9000.
