The New Theatre Royal in Portsmouth is about to enter an exciting chapter in its long and illustrious life – and you could be part of it.
We’re asking readers to nominate people who deserve to have their name on a plaque on a seat in the new auditorium of this historic Victorian theatre.
The New Theatre Royal is about bringing the community together and making everyone feel a part of the theatreCaroline Sharman, chief executive of the New Theatre Royal
It could be a friend who loves theatre, somebody who has shown bravery in overcoming adversity or a champion of your community.
Theatre chief executive Caroline Sharman says: ‘The New Theatre Royal is about bringing the community together and making everyone feel a part of the theatre. It is still standing and alive today thanks to the hard work and support of our local community, so we want to give them a new theatre to be proud of and offer this opportunity to dedicate a seat to someone who deserves to be celebrated.’
This exclusive offer is part of the theatre’s new Take A Seat campaign, which gives residents, businesses, organisations and theatre fans the opportunity to sponsor a seat for £215.
Seats will display each sponsor’s name on a plaque for the seat’s life. They are being allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.
The campaign is being supported by celebrities including actors Sheila Hancock, Edward Fox, Timothy West and Prunella Scales.
The NTR has enjoyed more than 150 years as a cultural landmark and is set to reopen in the autumn following a £4.5m rebuild and refurbishment programme.
This includes a creative learning centre dedicated to Oscar-winning writer and director Anthony Minghella.
To nominate someone for a free named plaque on a seat of their choice, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with the name of the nominee and why they deserve this honour.
Closing date for entries is midnight on June 11, 2015.
