One of Alan Bennett’s saddest, funniest and most distinguished offerings is tackled by Titchfield Festival Theatre from November 19-28.

The Lady In The Van tells the true story of Alan Bennett’s strained friendship with Miss Mary Shepherd, an eccentric homeless woman whom Bennett befriended in the 1970s before allowing her to temporarily park her Bedford van in the driveway of his London Borough of Camden home. She stayed there for 15 years.

The play has recently been turned into a film starring Dame Maggie Smith as the eponymous lady. It will be performed at St Margaret’s Lane, Titchfield. Tickets £9-£11, performances at 7.30pm. No performance on Sunday. Call 01329 556156.
