The Portsmouth Players have a hit on their hands as big as their hair.

Hairspray, which is currently on at The Kings, has smashed previous ticket sales records for the company’s shows, making it their biggest ever.

Tonight and Saturday had sold-out, but due to demand The Kings have opened the galleries, with tickets costing £7.

Sarah Partridge, 22, from Southsea plays lead character Tracy Turnblad.

‘The reaction has been massive. It makes me feel very proud of myself and the whole company,’ says Sarah.‘We have been going for years and to see the hard work we have put in paying off is fantastic.’

Sarah says the show is the secret to their success.

‘There was a lot of hype when Hairspray came out, and the musical is still new. Everyone knows it is funny and comical.’
